These soft, chewy sugar cookies will melt in your mouth with their wonderful vanilla-infused sugar flavor.
Ingredients
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 1½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
Instructions
  1. Cream the shortening and the sugar.
  2. Add the eggs, milk and vanilla.
  3. Stir in the flour and mix until all of the flour is incorporated into the dough.
  4. Cover the dough and let it chill for 30 minutes or more.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls roughly the size of a walnut and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Flatten the balls with the bottom of a glass that has been dipped in sugar.
  7. Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes at 325 degrees until they are just starting to turn lightly golden around the edges, being careful not to over cook them so that they stay soft and chewy. They will continue to set as they cool.
  8. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes on the pan and then place them on a wire rack to cool completely.
