Train Cake

This train cake can easily be decorated to match any color scheme. The durable graham cracker cars can even hold other goodies to make a colorful and eye-catching dessert centerpiece.
Ingredients
  • Cake
  • Buttercream frosting
  • Linzer cookie wheels
  • Ice cream cone
  • Cupcake
  • Tea boxes
  • Graham crackers
  • Wilton candy melts
Instructions
Train Engine
  1. Stack two rectangular pieces of cake together as the base of the train.
  2. Then stack cake rounds on one end.
  3. Use buttercream frosting to fill in the gaps and hold all of the pieces together.
  4. Apply a light crumb coat of icing on the entire cake.
  5. Let the icing harden. (You can place the cake in the freezer for 5-10 minutes to speed up this process.)
  6. Apply another thin layer of frosting and smooth it out or decorate it as desired.
  7. Stick an ice cream cone in the front of the train.
  8. Fill the cone with a cupcake iced generously for the steam.
  9. Use linzer cookies (or Oreos, etc. depending on your color scheme) as the wheels.
Train Cars
  1. Dip the graham crackers in melted Wilton candy/chocolate melts, using the color of your choice.
  2. Let the chocolate harden.
  3. Frost the backs of the coated graham crackers with buttercream frosting and stick them to the sides of the tea boxes.
  4. Pipe the edges with buttercream frosting.
  5. Fill the cars with the goodies of your choice.
