This taco meat doesn't require any store-bought seasoning packets but it is just as easy to make. It is so flavorful that you can substitute ground chicken or turkey for a healthier option and some people might not even notice a difference!
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef/turkey/chicken
Roughly 1 cup chopped onion
1-2 chopped jalapeño peppers, to taste
Chili powder, to taste and to color (this will make it dark red)
1 tsp cumin
½ tsp oregano
¼ tsp black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1 small can of tomato sauce (or tomato paste with chicken broth)
Instructions
Brown the meat with the chopped onion and jalapeños.
Add one small can of tomato sauce.
Add the chili powder until the meat becomes dark red.
Heat the meat and add 1 tsp cumin, ½ tsp oregano, ¼ tsp black pepper and 1 tsp garlic powder.
Let the meat simmer for 5-10 minutes, seasoning it to taste.
