The splash of blueberry purée is a perfect balance to the tartness of the lemon in this homemade lemonade.
Ingredients
Simple Sugar Syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
Blueberry Lemonade
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 - 1½ lemons
  • ¼ cup water
  • Simple syrup or sugar, to taste
Instructions
Simple Sugar Syrup
  1. Mix 1 cup water and ½ cup sugar in a small saucepan over low-medium heat.
  2. Heat the mixture, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the liquid becomes clear.
  3. Let it cool and refrigerate it in a sealed container.
Blueberry Lemonade
  1. Make the blueberry purée by blending the blueberries until a thick liquid is formed.
  2. Add as little water as necessary to allow the fruit to blend.
  3. Store the purée in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
  4. Fill your serving cup with ice and then pour the ice into a martini shaker.
  5. Add the juice of 1 lemon, ¼ cup water, 2 Tbsp of the simple sugar syrup and 1-2 spoonfuls of blueberry purée. (In place of the simple syrup, you can substitute 1 Tbsp sugar.)
  6. Shake the drink well and add more simple sugar syrup or blueberry purée to taste.
  7. You can also stir the lemonade in a large pitcher, just be sure to mix it well.
  8. Pour the contents of the shaker, including the ice, into your serving glass.
  9. Garnish the glass with a lemon slice and add a few frozen blueberries to the lemonade.
  10. Serve the homemade lemonade chilled.
