Pan-Fried Plantains

Plantains look similar to a banana but they are starchier and not as sweet.  They are a popular ingredient in many countries around the world, especially in the tropical regions such as the Caribbean.  They can be prepared in many ways or added to main dishes.  When simply fried they make a great appetizer or side dish.

Ingredients

1 plantain, sliced

1/4 tsp salt, to taste

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1/8 tsp black pepper

Lightly coat a pan with oil and heat it over medium heat.  Gently toss the plantain slices with the seasonings.  Pan-fry the plantain slices for 3-5 minutes until golden brown.  Flip them and cook for 3-5 minutes on the other side, until golden brown.
