Homemade Strawberry-Raspberry Lemonade

This rendition of homemade lemonade is tart but you can add more sugar to taste.  The splash of strawberry or raspberry purée adds a summery sweetness which is a perfect balance to the tartness of the lemon.  I used a strawberry purée and garnished the lemonade with fresh raspberries. (You can add another fruit of your choice, such as blueberries for homemade blueberry lemonade).

Ingredients
  • Simple Syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Berry Lemonade
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 – 1 1/2 lemons
  • 1 cup strawberries and/or raspberries
  • Simple syrup or sugar, to taste
Instructions
Simple Sugar Syrup
  1. Mix 1 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar in a small saucepan over low-medium heat.
  2. Heat the mixture, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the liquid becomes clear.
  3. Let it cool and refrigerate it in a sealed container.
Berry Purée
  1. Make the strawberry-raspberry purée by blending the berries until a thick liquid is formed.
  2. Add as little water as necessary to allow the fruit to blend.
  3. Store the purée in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
Lemonade
  1. Fill your serving cup with ice and then pour the ice into a martini shaker.
  2. Add the juice of 1 lemon, 1/4 cup water, 2 Tbsp of simple sugar syrup and 1-2 spoonfuls of strawberry-raspberry purée. (In place of the simple syrup, you can substitute 1 Tbsp sugar.)
  3. Shake the drink well and add more simple sugar syrup or strawberry-raspberry purée to taste.
  4. You can also stir the lemonade in a large pitcher, just be sure to mix it well.
  5. Pour the contents of the shaker, including the ice, into your serving glass.
  6. Garnish the glass with a lemon slice and add a few frozen or fresh strawberries or raspberries to the lemonade.
  7. Serve the homemade lemonade chilled.
