Homemade Blueberry Lemonade
Print This Recipe
This rendition of homemade lemonadeis tart but you can add more sugar to taste. The splash of blueberry purée is a perfect balance to the tartness of the lemon. (You can also add another fruit purée of your choice, such as strawberries and/or raspberries for homemade strawberry-raspberry lemonade).
Ingredients
1 – 1 1/2 lemons
1 1/4 cup water, divided
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup blueberries
Make the simple sugar syrup by mixing 1 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar in a small saucepan over low-medium heat. Heat the mixture, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the liquid becomes clear. Let it cool and refrigerate it in a sealed container.
Make the blueberry purée by blending the blueberries until a thick liquid is formed. Add as little water as necessary to allow the fruit to blend. Store the purée in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
Fill your serving cup with ice and then pour the ice into a martini shaker. Add the juice of 1 lemon, 1/4 cup water, 2 Tbsp of the simple sugar syrup and 1-2 spoonfuls of blueberry purée. (In place of the simple syrup, you can substitute 1 Tbsp sugar.) Shake the drink well and add more simple sugar syrup or blueberry purée as needed. (You can also stir the lemonade in a large pitcher, just be sure to mix it well.)
Pour the contents of the shaker, including the ice, into your serving glass. Garnish the glass with a lemon slice and add a few frozen blueberries to the lemonade. Serve the homemade lemonade chilled.
