Spinach, Feta & Garlic Pesto Flat Bread

Though a thin crust may seem like just a vehicle for the toppings, this flat bread {flavored with spinach, garlic and feta} is actually very tasty on its own or as a simple cheese and/or pesto breadstick. For my St. Patrick's Day flat bread, I had fun using shamrock and other festive {green} toppings.

Pytt i Panna {little bits in a pan}, is basically a Swedish hash comprised of piping hot bits of fried meat, potatoes and onion. Though variations abound, the dish is a lesson on how sometimes the simplest lists of ingredients can produce a comforting, flavorful meal.

In this savory croissant, the ham and cheese are baked inside the buttery pastry dough to make a warm, panini-style sandwich that is great for a main meal or as the side to a soup or salad.

Nutella Croissants

My inspiration for this chocolatey version of the croissant came from the popular French pastry, pain au chocolat, which is essentially a chocolate-filled croissant in the shape of a rectangle instead of a crescent. En lieu of plain chocolate I decided to try Nutella which turns out to be a popular croissant filling in Germany.

Croissants are a flaky, buttery pastry in the shape of a crescent. They are traditionally made with a yeast dough that is layered and rolled with butter (a process called laminating) but this recipe simplifies the process. I like to make an assortment of croissants, leaving some plain to be served with butter and jam or used as sandwich bread, and filling the rest with sweet and savory ingredients.

After discovering how simple it is to make sushi at home and inspired by the colorful rainbow roll, I decided to make a more kid-friendly version of this popular sushi roll. Your kids can help roll the sushi and brainstorm different toppings to give the roll the rainbow colors.

Homemade Sausage and Egg Breakfast Sandwich

Most kids like Sausage and Egg McMuffins from McDonald's so this sausage and egg sandwich is an easy sell for breakfast. Making them at home is easier than you think and a whole lot better for you and your family. I like making the sausage using ground chicken or turkey.

There are many different flavors in this sandwich that mask the fact that it's made with healthy ingredients. It's colorful, visually appealing and easy to make, too.

Shortbread Sugar Cookies

These sugar cookies have more of a buttery shortbread flavor and texture than traditional sugar cookies. They are easy to make and hold their shape well when baking. Because these cookies don't puff up much while baking, I recommend them if you are using an intricate cookie cutter.

Milk Bread Buns

We recently made sliders for dinner. We couldn't find any mini hamburger buns at the store so I decided to make some. These milk buns made great hamburger buns but you could also form them into other roll shapes. They are slightly sweet but you can reduce the sugar depending on what you will be using them for.
