This rendition of homemade lemonade is tart but you can add more sugar to taste. The splash of strawberry or raspberry purée adds a summery sweetness which is a perfect balance to the tartness of the lemon. I used a strawberry purée and garnished the lemonade with fresh raspberries. (You can add another fruit of your choice, such as blueberries for homemade blueberry lemonade).

Ingredients
Simple Syrup
- 1 cup water
- ½ cup sugar
Berry Lemonade
- ¼ cup water
- 1 - 1½ lemons
- 1 cup strawberries and/or raspberries
- Simple syrup or sugar, to taste
Instructions
Simple Sugar Syrup
- Mix 1 cup water and ½ cup sugar in a small saucepan over low-medium heat.
- Heat the mixture, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the liquid becomes clear.
- Let it cool and refrigerate it in a sealed container.
Berry Purée
- Make the strawberry-raspberry purée by blending the berries until a thick liquid is formed.
- Add as little water as necessary to allow the fruit to blend.
- Store the purée in a sealed container in the refrigerator.
Lemonade
- Fill your serving cup with ice and then pour the ice into a martini shaker.
- Add the juice of 1 lemon, ¼ cup water, 2 Tbsp of simple sugar syrup and 1-2 spoonfuls of strawberry-raspberry purée. (In place of the simple syrup, you can substitute 1 Tbsp sugar.)
- Shake the drink well and add more simple sugar syrup or strawberry-raspberry purée to taste.
- You can also stir the lemonade in a large pitcher, just be sure to mix it well.
- Pour the contents of the shaker, including the ice, into your serving glass.
- Garnish the glass with a lemon slice and add a few frozen or fresh strawberries or raspberries to the lemonade.
- Serve the homemade lemonade chilled.
