This strawberries & cream layer cake looks complicated but it is surprisingly simple to make. It is essentially a form of strawberry shortcake presented in layers. I like making individual layer cakes out of each slice so that everyone can choose how they want to eat their pound cake. But another option would be to slice the entire pound cake into three layers and make one whole layer cake.
Ingredients
Vanilla pound cake
Strawberries, sliced
Sugar, to taste
Mix the sliced strawberries and a small amount of sugar. I usually only use a small spoonful of sugar, depending on the natural sweetness of the berries, to round out the sweetness and give the berries a syrupy consistency.
Slice a piece of pound cake into three thin layers. Starting with the bottom layer, spread whipped cream on the cake and then place sliced strawberries on top. (Or you can spoon berries and the syrup on to the cream.)
Press the middle layer of pound cake on to the berries. Spread the middle cake layer with whipped cream and sliced berries. Put the top layer of pound cake on the berries. Cover it with whipped cream and top it with sliced berries or one full strawberry.
