My recent experiment making Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal for breakfast inspired me to mix up my morning oatmeal routine again. This time, I had some leftover chunky Blackberry Maple Syrup from our Mardi Gras pancake feast. My breakfast was so good that next time I'll be making the blackberry syrup specifically for my morning oatmeal!
With all of the cold winter weather we've been experiencing I've been daydreaming of sunshine and summer. So when Simply Orange Juice contacted me with the offer to send me coupons for a product sampling, it was perfect timing. I had a cold, frothy Orange Julius on my mind.
This hearty two-bean chowder is a healthy comfort food, perfect for the cold winter weather we've been having. Mashing a portion of the beans is a healthy way to make the soup thick and creamy like a chowder.
Homemade hamburger buns can transform any burger into something special. Make them in miniature for sliders, oblong-shaped for hot dogs or use the dough for pigs in a blanket.
There is something about homemade ice cream which is simply the best. Fortunately, making ice cream is so easy these days. You can stir the ice cream to reach your desired consistency. A word of warning, though: if you take a bite while it's at milkshake or soft-serve consistency, you may never finish stirring it. It's that good.
We recently made sliders for dinner. We couldn't find any mini hamburger buns at the store so I decided to make some. These milk buns made great hamburger buns but you could also form them into other roll shapes. They are slightly sweet but you can reduce the sugar depending on what you will be using them for.
This recipe comes from my good friend, Milena, in Germany. Similar to crêpes, German pancakes are large and thin and can be used for both sweet and savory dishes. When I made these recently for breakfast, I made the sweeter version and added grated apples and blueberries to some of the pancakes.
Arroz con Leche, literally "rice with milk," is a traditional Spanish dessert that is also popular all throughout Latin America. Variations of rice pudding can be found around the world and this is the Spanish take on it. I love the simplicity of this recipe - rice, milk, a cinnamon stick and sugar. It is easy to make as long as you have forty minutes to an hour to watch it and stir it frequently.
Hot Cross Buns were traditionally made on Good Friday but they have become a typical breakfast treat during the entire Easter season. The following recipe is the one that my mom still makes every Easter.
I like serving mashed sweet potatoes and yams instead of mashed potatoes with most meals. They have more water than regular potatoes so I find that I use less milk and butter to get the creamy texture that we like. And the yams especially add a great pop of color to any plate!
